An Open Letter To My Best Friend: You Deserve The World

Dear Best Friend,

I know you’d argue with me on this one, but I really think you deserve the world. It strikes me that you’re not even aware of that sometimes. Actually, you’re not aware of that most of the time. And I often catch myself wondering what I did to deserve you or thanking God that our paths crossed the day they did. Because you’re the best thing that has happened to me in a long time.

You light up the room the moment you enter it and you’re so oblivious to it. And it’s so hard to not notice it. It comes naturally to people to shift their attention to you and you’re not even aware of that. Because you’re not one of those attention seekers. You’re not even trying and yet you are more than magnetizing.

You’re the type of person who makes people’s hearts warm whenever they’re around you. You make every person around you feel better without even needing to try hard. Being kind-hearted comes so naturally to you. And I’m glad I get to be around you and have your kindness warm my heart as well.

See, you’re a person whom someone can only live without if they’ve never lived with them before.

Because once you walk into someone’s life, only then can they realize what it means to have somebody who genuinely cares about them. And they end up needing you. They end up needing your warmth and your kindness because it’s so easy to get addicted to it.
People need you because you’re everyone’s shoulder to cry on. You’re their helping hand in their times of need. You’re the first to fight for the people you care about and, knowing you, I doubt you’d have to think twice before jumping into a fist fight for those whom you truly love.

What strikes me the most is your ability to forgive. Even if people break your heart, even if they betray you or hurt you, you always find a way to forgive. You find a way to move on. Sometimes, it takes more time and sometimes, it takes a bit less, but you never see people through their mistakes. Because you love to believe there is more to them than their mistakes. You believe everyone deserves to be loved and everyone deserves a second chance. You find hope in people where nobody would ever think of looking and you keep fighting when any normal person would’ve given up long time ago.

You find a reason to believe in people even when they don’t believe in themselves. You’re always there for them even if they aren’t always there for you. And you care for them even when they forget about themselves. I can’t remember a single person you let down because you’re always there to offer people your arms to hug them, your heart to feel compassionate with them and yourself to listen to them and show them they’re not alone.

You don’t let go of people—you always find a reason to stay and fight. You give your love without holding anything back because love, for you, isn’t an option; love is your mantra and you decide to give all of your love to others so purely and without even expecting anything in return. That’s how selfless you are. That’s what’s so amazing about you. And that’s what I love the most about you—and the fact that you always wear your heart on your sleeve.

It’s not only other people who need you. I need you too and more than you can wrap your mind around. Because you’re way stronger than you realize. You’re a fighter and yet you’re so sensitive and kind. You’re funny and you’re smart. You’re beautiful and you’re fucking powerful. You are all of this; so many things in one person I haven’t met anyone as whole as you.

You change people, but please don’t ever let people change you. Don’t let them ruin your kindness or your spark. Don’t let them turn you into something different or make you believe you should be somebody else because out of all the people I know, you are the one that God created almost perfectly. You’re the easiest person to love on this earth and don’t let anyone convince you differently.

Don’t ever change. Don’t give up on the person you are and please never give up on me. Because you are a true blessing in my life, you’re my sister, perhaps not by blood, but definitely by heart.

I know you don’t see yourself in the way I’ve written here, but that’s only because you have never looked at yourself through my eyes. You do deserve the world because you’re there for people who need you and you make this world a truly better place.
I just want you to know that I see you. And I admire everything you showed me up till this moment. I admire your kindness, your courage and your drive. Even when you fall, you never stay down. And whenever I fall, you pull me up. And I want to thank you for choosing me and being part of my life. I am eternally grateful to have someone like you in my life.

Love,
One Of The Many You’ve Never Let Down
